CHRONOLOGY OF THE AJRDT
1972 - Weekly workshops began with Astor, drawing a group of dancers from
various companies.
1970s to 1980s - Tours to parts of the Caribbean, North, Central and South America, Africa and Europe.
1985-Death of Astor Johnson.
1991-Astor Johnson awarded posthumously, the Hummingbird Silver Medal for his contribution to Culture.
1993-Astor Johnson Repertory Dance Theatre awarded theHummingbird Gold Medal. ????- A reactivation happened. This was led by Senior members & managed by Michael Lashley. 2003 and 2005 - performances at Queen's Hall led by Artistic Director Gary de Matas. 2014-Beginning of Sunday classes at the Caribbean School of Dancing.
2015- "Awake His Legacy" initiative led by Allison Seepaul, Marlon Phillip and Joanna Charles .
Present - Weekly classes continue: Sunday morning modern classes and rehearsals of Astor's pieces and Wednesday evening classes in adult ballet/contemporary/modern.
