ARTISTIC DIRECTIOR - GARY DE MATAS 2008-15
The Astor Johnson Repertory Dance Theatre of Trinidad and Tobago has one of the leading dance repertoires in the Caribbean.
The company was founded in 1972 by the late Astor Johnson, master Caribbean choreographer. Much of the work is based on Afro-Caribbean dances in the region and seeks to embrace a fusion of indigenous Caribbean and modern dance styles.
The masterful work of the dance company has persisted for decades through the commitment of its dancers to Astor's vision and to Caribbean dance forms. Works from Astor Johnson as well as other choreographers are showcased in the company's dance seasons.
